Upon arrival in Mauritius, at least 2 working days before the scheduled wedding date, the couple goes to Port Louis to go through the necessary formalities: first, to the Civil Registry Office to verify all documents, the Supreme Court to issue an affidavit and obtain permission to register a marriage in Mauritius. After that, you need to visit the district Civil Status Office (in the area where the hotel is located), where an application for registration of marriage is submitted and the upcoming marriage is announced. The wedding can be played no earlier than 24 hours after passing all the formalities. The ceremony is conducted by the registrar of the Civil Status Registry Office of the area where the young people live. The passage of the above formalities takes, as a rule, about 4 hours. We strongly recommend using the services of an English-speaking guide-interpreter, because all formalities and ceremony are conducted in English/French. While visiting Port Louis, the future spouses must follow the official dress code to go through the formalities: the groom should wear long trousers and closed shoes, the bride is not allowed to come in a miniskirt, sundress (t-shirts and slippers are also not allowed).
An apostilled marriage certificate is issued to the newlyweds within 8 working days after the ceremony (delivered to the hotel or, if the newlyweds have already left Mauritius, sent to the specified address, in which case an additional postage fee of 35 euros will be charged).
Please note that according to the legislation of the Republic of Mauritius, only the bride’s maiden name is entered in the marriage certificate.
